Cracked Cookies

My mom likes to bake all sorts of cakes, fudges and other sweet delicatessens, but she doesn't do cookies. So the other day I found this recipe I wanted to try. It is very simple and cookies are to die for.
You will need (for app 40 cookies):
60g unsalted butter
225 grams good quality dark cooking chocolate
100g granulated white sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsps (10ml) rum
210g plain flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
approximately 100gm extra of sifted icing sugar
225 grams good quality dark cooking chocolate
100g granulated white sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsps (10ml) rum
210g plain flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
approximately 100gm extra of sifted icing sugar
In a double boiler melt chocolate and butter. In a separate bowl mix eggs, granulated sugar and rum. After they've been thoroughly mixed add them to the melted chocolate. Mix flour, salt and baking powder and add it to the chocolate mixture and stir into the chocolate mixture until just combined.
Now put the mixture to rest for at least 5 hours or even better overnight in a fridge.
Preheat your oven on 170°C (325 °F) and line baking trays with baking paper.
Place the confectioners sugar in a bowl. With lightly greased hands, roll a small amount of chilled dough
to form balls that’s about the size of a walnut.
Place the ball of dough into the bed of
icing sugar and roll it around until it is completely coated and no
chocolate shows through. Gently tap off excess sugar and place on the
baking tray, a good 2 inches apart. If the chocolate mixture is starting to melt or
soften too much, then place it back in the fridge to firm up again.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges of the cookie are slightly firm, but the center remains soft.
Enjoy!

Just like any other kind of design, graphic design is affected by trends. So here is a little round up of what I've been inspired by lately.

DIY: Pom Pom Garland
by
Unknown
- 11:04 AM
Materials:
wool
scissors
fork
+ thread and needle for garland
Take your fork and wool and start winding wool around fork. Do it until you feel satisfied with the thickness of wool on the fork. When you are satisfied, cut the wool, and cut another smaller part of it to tie the wool on the fork. Do it through the middle fork hole to make sure you got it through the middle and tie it firmly. Once you've done that, take your future-pompom-to-be off the fork and cut all the loops. Make sure you get them all, and then once your pom pom is all cut, trim the extra long parts of it to make it all nice and round and cute :)
When you've made a whole bunch of pom poms, take the needle and the thread and make a garland by pushing the needle through the middle of a pom pom. I've decided to go with the Christmasy red and off white wool but you can combine as many colors as you want.
Have fun!

1/2 and 2 tablespoons (150 grams) granulated sugar
1 teaspoon table salt
2 sticks (225 grams, 8 ounces, or 1 cup) unsalted butter, very cold
1/2 cup water, very cold
spices of choice (I decided to go with the christmas mix and added cinnamon, nutmeg, fennel, clove...)
Mix flour, sugar, salt and spices in a bowl. Add softened butter and water and mix it all until it is all well incorporated and you get a ball of dough. Take that dough and put it either in refrigerator for 1-2 hour or deep freeze it for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven on 320F (160C). Roll out the dough and cut out the shapes.
Put it on oven paper and put in the oven for 15 minutes or until they start to brown. Take them out and enjoy!

There is nothing better than getting inspired by other artist. It doesn't matter whether they are sculptors, typographers, graphic designers, illustrators... they all give you something through their work. So today I bring you some of the best (IMHO) Christmas related artworks.
